Comic

A comic is a story told through sequential artwork.

Comics appear in comic books, graphic novels, trade paperbacks (combining a limited series or two), and omnibuses (combining an even longer run).

Being hand drawn, and therefore limited only by the imaginations of their writers, artists, and colourists, comics can be both fanciful and visually striking in a way that live action media such as films and TV shows seldom have the budget to replicate. The medium can therefore lend itself well to larger-than-life tales set far into the past or imagined future.

In the US, comics are generally seen as being for children, and so often feature morally and intellectually simplistic superheroes and masked vigilantes. Contrast with many Japanese manga and even some European comics.
